The Sigma 20-60mm f/2.8-4 DG Contemporary is a standard zoom lens for full-frame Sony E-mount cameras, covering a range from 20mm ultra-wide to 60mm standard. It weighs just 375 grams, which is remarkably light for a lens that starts at f/2.8. Travellers, videographers and photographers on the go get a versatile full-frame lens that takes up barely any space in the bag.
The optical design consists of 15 elements in 13 groups, including three aspherical elements and three SLD glass elements (special low-dispersion glass that combats chromatic aberration). This keeps sharpness consistent across the entire zoom range. Flare and ghosting are actively suppressed through simulation technology, which preserves contrast in backlit situations and keeps lens flare to a minimum.
At 20mm you get f/2.8, allowing you to shoot in dark environments or at dusk without pushing the ISO too high. The aperture is variable: at 60mm, f/4 is the maximum. The minimum focusing distance is 15.8 centimetres at 28mm, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.3 at 35mm. That borders on half-macro, so you can also capture small subjects like flowers in detail.
Autofocus is driven by an HLA motor (High-response Linear Actuator), a linear motor that focuses quickly and silently. It also tracks fast-moving subjects at high frame rates. Focus breathing is kept to a minimum, ensuring smooth focus transitions in video without distracting changes in angle of view. The build is dust- and splash-resistant, and the front element features a water- and oil-repellent coating. Good to know: the lens is not fully waterproof, so take care in heavy rain.
